The Academic Label

X

It all started when we realised just how difficult it was to navigate our interests; not to mention the overwhelming pressure to get good grades. So, we formed The Academic Label (TAL), a programme that adds value to existing initiatives within the youth mentorship field, which is unique in its age sensitivity & perspective.

This project aims to nurture youths who are still discovering their career / academic passions and aspirations. The Academic Label's main program is the 1-to-1 mentorship offered in conjunction with supplementary programs which aimed at translating mentorship insights into tangible action.

Core Tenets of
The Academic Label

1.

Action-Driven

Action-Driven

Vision without action is a dream; Every idea is only as good as its execution. Leveraging on our diverse mentor pool, forYouths’ other mentorship programmes and our community partners, mentees of The Academic Label can leverage on various supplementary programmes to translate their mentorship insights into tangible action.

Age-Sensitive

Age-Sensitive

The Academic Label’s target mentee population is pre-tertiary students (Secondary 4 and onwards). In keeping to our commitment to age-sensitivity, our programme matches prospective mentees to youth mentors in or fresh out of university. Beyond purely matching by an alignment in academic interests, the programme adopts a holistic process which factors-in the common lived experiences of the mentee and mentor.

The Academic Label adopts a holistic matching process which transcends alignment in just the mentee and mentor's academic interests, by also factoring in their common lived experiences.

Project Incubation

Project incubation

The Academic Label encourages mentees to be stewards of their future and also stewards for change. Want to start a passion project or a values-in-action initiative? Receive mentorship from forYouths’ administrators and be connected with our community partners such as SGExams, MentoringSG, the National Youth Council (among many more) to bring your ideas to fruition.

Insights are only powerful when they are translated into action. As mentees of The Academic Label, supplementary programmes are available on-demand at any point during the mentorship, brought to you by the wider mentoring team, Aspect and forYouths' other community partners.

Diversity;
An Organisational Priority

Diversity is not just a buzzword here at The Academic Label. The programme prioritizes inclusivity and access to youths from all walks of life and of all interests.

The Academic Label has matched mentees to mentors in niche fields such as the visual arts and journalism (among many more). Beyond that, prospective mentees get to join an ecosystem of similarly motivated and driven youths of both similar and contrasting interests, forging connections with fellow like-minded individuals.

We also encourage mentees from non-traditional education backgrounds or interested in non-traditional career pathways to apply to join our programme.
